Last year, Andrew and I spent a week down in Frankfort, MI with my family. We stayed in a beautiful cottage that was a quick walk to an amazing, quiet beach. If you ever get the chance to go to Frankfort (or any of the surrounding cities of Northern Michigan along M22), don’t pass it up! When you’re there, you forget where you are. The lake looks like an ocean, and the overall ambiance makes you feel like you are in a far away paradise. We’re going again this August, and are so excited.

One of the things I started doing on our last trip, was taking pictures of the different dogs we met throughout the week. Andrew and I missed Guinness so much, and getting a chance to hang out with other dogs made it easier to get through the week with our little man so far away!

I like to call this gallery, “Dogs of Frankfort.” Enjoy!

We met this adorable duo while we were out shopping in Glen Arbor. Jackson (first picture) was very curious and eager to meet new people, but his sister, Dorie, was older and a bit more shy as she cuddled in her mom’s arms. Andrew was happy that Jackson let him hold him for a few minutes!

This pretty girl, Bernie, was still a young pup when we met her on one of our beach days. She LOVED sticking her face in the sand, but was very wary of the water lol. She loved meeting everyone and put a smile on all of our faces.

Malibu was a surprise to us because we found her relaxing in a store! She belongs to the owner of a bookstore in downtown Frankfort, and you can usually find her hanging out there throughout the day.  The poor girl was obviously pretty tired when we took her picture!IMG_20130814_222239

Nelson, a Brittany Spaniel, was one of the most entertaining pups we met on our trip! He was walking along the beach with his owner, when Andrew stopped to introduce himself. After a few minutes of us talking with his owner, Nelson started digging a HUGE hole in the sand. We thought he was just being silly, but then he pulled out a tennis ball!!! We were so amazed and gave him a big round of applause. Tons of dogs will have walked over that spot and not realized the prize that was hiding beneath the sand, but Nelson’s nose rewarded him with a toy to play with for the rest of the day. Andrew threw the ball into the water, and Nelson retrieved it over and over again. He was quite the character, and he definitely made our day!

IMG_20130814_222502This gorgeous girl was not only my favourite friend from our trip, but she also gave me one of my favourite photos of all time. I LOVE this picture! Delilah is a pit bull that was recently adopted by her owner. She was very timid, but extremely gentle and kind. We also found out that she was deaf, which explained a lot of her cautious behaviour. I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding this breed, but I think Delilah and her owner are perfect examples of how kind and beautiful pit bulls are when they raised by loving, dedicated people.

{The Start of Something New}

Here it is! My first blog post ever! Well, sort of…I do write blogs, and have been for quite some time now. I blog for a local wedding planning company (The Little White Dress), and have had a blast blogging about all things weddings for the last year and a half, and am still going strong. However, I’ve never had my own blog where I can just rant and rave about anything my little heart desires! So, I decided that 2014 is going to be the start of doing just that: blogging about what I want, when I want.

I thought it would be fitting to make my first post a bit of an introduction. Who I am, what I love and am all about! Here it goes…

First things first, my name is Katie and I am a 26 year old trying to figure out what to do with my life *sigh*. I know that no one ever said that life was easy, but I didn’t think that I would be this confused at this stage in the game. Anyway, this post isn’t going to turn into a rant about how life is unfair and how I thought I had done everything right up to this point! No, this is going to be a positive introduction to 2014, who I am, and the people and things that are most important to me.

I live with my fabulous boyfriend and partner in crime, Andrew. Together, we spend the majority of our spare time spoiling our boxer, Guinness. He’s too cute for words and I don’t think anyone loves their dog as much as we do (but I think most pet owners say that lol).

I have an amazing family and circle of friends that I could not possibly live without. My parents and little brother are wonderful, and by bff, Rachele is the sister I never had.

I graduated from Wilfrid Laurier in 2010 with an HBA Communication Studies, and then attended Conestoga College in 2011, where I earned a Graduate Certificate in Event Management. I’ve also had a handful of different jobs, including sales with Aerie/ American Eagle, office assistant with Sandvine and The Cambridge Association of REALTORS®, and intern/ assistant with The Little White Dress. A mixed bag of experience to say the least lol! But I’ve enjoyed and appreciated all of these positions, and am excited to see where the future takes me career-wise.

A random, but interesting fact about me: I am Metis! I volunteer with the Grand River Metis Council as a Youth Rep and have learned so much in a very short period of time about the Metis community and its history. I hope to encourage other Metis youth to explore their ancestry, and to truly appreciate and be proud of their Metis heritage!

My favourite TV shows include Friends, Mad Men, Bomb Girls and New Girl (Jennifer Aniston and Zooey Deschanel are my girls!). But I also have a strong love and appreciation for Old Hollywood. Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe are two women that I adore and take note from in terms of their grace, strength and timeless presence.

I am a Food Network addict! I don’t think I could live without the channel lol. Even though I am not the greatest cook or baker, I enjoy experimenting with new recipes and strive to be half the woman my mom is in the kitchen (and life in general).

Another obsession of mine: Elvis Presley. My iTunes library has more Elvis music than any human being could possibly need, and one of my dreams is to travel to Memphis to tour Graceland. It will happen one day! (P.S. Yesterday was Elvis’ birthday! Hard to believe that he would have been 79!)

Besides Memphis, there are a bunch of other places I hope to visit someday soon. I would love to see a Broadway show in New York City, explore places like Scotland and Ireland, and most definitely go back to Paris (hence the “I Dream of Paris” title). Those are just a few of the adventures I see myself taking in the near future, but who knows where life will take me and when!

Well, there you have it! A little bit of Katie 101 for my first post! Hopefully it wasn’t too much of a bore to read. It feels good to start this new year off doing something that I’ve said I wanted to do a hundred times but never ended up doing. Anyway, that’s it for me tonight! Take care!
